Not for ourselves, but for others...

Women's Auxiliary of the SA Legion

Every month the members of the Women’s Auxiliary conduct welfare visits to a number hospitals and homes that provide assistance to veterans. These include Valkenberg Hospital, The Salvation Army Home, Robertson House and the Happy Valley Shelter in Simonstown.

The men, all military veterans are the recipients of parcels provided by the Women’s Auxiliary and are representative of those who, in recent times, put their lives on the line for South Africa.

Jenny Jewel is the chairperson of the Women’s Auxiliary service, and brings a vitality and keen interest to the organisation.

“We deliver the parcels ourselves so as to meet the recipients and get a better understanding of who they are and their circumstances” she says.

The parcels are packaged by Women’s Auxiliary and include basic toiletries and some sweet treats. The parcel handover is quick, but the gathered recipients are pleased.

“It may be a small thing but every bit helps and the recipients are appreciative of the assistance” Ms Jewell says.
